The Problem With Black Soap

The fact that black soap has been used for so long and that many of them are made of natural substances (though it should be noted that some also contain artificial ingredients) makes it entirely understandable, but moderation is the key. When I used the Shea Moisture African Black Soap, I only used it a couple of times a week at most, and I wouldn't use it as part of my regular regimen in the winter. Using it too frequently on my face could dry out my skin. Yes, oily facial skin CAN be "dried out," but when that happens, the skin panics and generates even more oil to make up for the dryness. It's a terrific deep cleanser for me in the summer and I LOVED it for body acne. Some people use it as their daily facial cleanser, which can only lead to trouble.

As a licensed Esthetician, I will advise you as I advise my Femmes',

I advise using it no more than twice a week. Make sure  to use a nice moisturizer that is appropriate for your skin type after. I recommend our "Hydrate Me Moisturizer" as it works amazingly on melanated skin. Overuse  might cause dry, sensitive skin. It can make your skin even drier if you already have mature, dry skin, especially in the winter. If you have oily skin, drying it out more will cause it to overproduce sebum (oil), which may lead to outbreaks. Additionally, pick a trustworthy brand of black soap with a list of components on the packaging. Anything containing synthetic colors and scents should be avoided. Back acne responds well to black soap. Your body's skin is more durable than the skin on your face. It can withstand using black soap more frequently.

Balance and knowledge of how frequently to use the items in your routine are the keys to having a balanced skincare routine. Additionally, it involves taking your time to read and carefully adhere to the product instructions.
